The Brief:
Explore the topic of 'loss of innocence'.
Insight:
I Never Said Yes explores the topics of rape and sexual assault. Specifically I chose to focus on the story of Sarah Scott, a victim who wanted her story to be heard as a way for others to feel informed and comforted but also so that those who commit such crimes are aware of the consequences. That people will speak out.
Idea:
A campaign piece of three banners, telling her story in her words alongside informative handouts and a charity bucket with the funds raised being given to Rape Crisis.
Reach:
This project was displayed at the end of year exhibition hosted at my college which was open to family and friends as well as the general public for viewing. The handouts were available on the days of the exhibition for people to take and read in their own time, as well as the charity bucket for people to donate as much as they’d like to.
Installation Banners:

Make It Red
Make it red to show Sarah’s anger. Sarah’s courage for speaking out and the danger of the situation she was in.
The illustrations for the banners have been created using lino printing techniques. The fabric they have been printed onto is faux suede, a fabric commonly used for bedding, however it is also durable and hard to tear.
